ABOUT THE PROJECT |
Welcome to the Scottish-Polish Project's website
The Scottish-Polish Project aims to explore the shared history of the Polish and Scottish nations with a particular emphasis on the history of the Scottish settlers in Poland and of their descendants.
The project is subdivided into three parts: 1) Archival research – this part of the project aims to identify archival documents, as well as relevant publications, relating to Scottish settlers in Poland and their families. Through this work more descendants can be identified and new Polish surnames of Scottish origin can be discovered. 2) Genetic research – this part of the project aims to not only validate the results of archival research by comparing DNA of Polish descendants of Scottish settlers with their distant relatives who did not leave Scotland but can also fill some of the gaps due to lost or incomplete historical records as well as identify new Polish lineages originating from Scotland. 3) Public outreach – thanks to public outreach, which can range from online articles and publications to lectures etc. the results of this project can become more accessible to a wider audience. |
